Alex Murphy has been in and out. Hot and Cold. Here and there. The only constants for Murphy this season have been his name and the No. 12 he puts on every day.
While Murphy’s box score is nothing earthshattering — four points, 1-of-4 FG, one rebound — something about seeing him on the court was electric. The way he moves off the ball, the fluidity of the way he slashes with the ball. When he’s on the floor, it’s hard not to watch him.
The redshirt freshman forward rewarded the patience of Duke fans when he drove the lane and threw down a vicious two-handed dunk. The Twitter explosion after the dunk was a spectacle and may have officially ended the now-common “#FreeAlexMurphy” hashtag campaign that started earlier this season.
“He gave us some big minutes tonight,” Seth Curry said. “We see his athleticism everyday in practice, but that just has to carry over to games. He did a good job attacking the rim tonight, and [his first half dunk] was a beautiful play.”
