The Duke Blue Devils got some bad news today as they learned that senior forward Ryan Kelly will be out indefinitely. Kelly hurt his right foot, the same foot he injured last year, late in the first half of yesterdays 68-40 win vs. Clemson.
Kelly has been playing some of the best basketball of his career of late and was recently named ACC Player of the Week. Today Kelley had a CT scan on his foot and enough was seen for the team doctors to sideline him for an extended period of time.
In a statement released today Duke coach Mike Krzysewski said, “We feel very badly for Ryan. He is playing the best basketball of his career, and this is a tough setback for him. We’re hoping for a good recovery, and we are optimistic about his return.”
The first game Kelly will miss is this Saturday’s showdown at 20th ranked North Carolina State. So far this season Kelly has 13.5 ppg, 5.4 rpg and has shooting 50% from 3-point.
In his absence Duke will need freshman Amile Jefferson and redshirt freshman Alex Murphy among others to step up and fill the void left by the loss of Ryan Kelly.
