Mike Krzyzewski: ‘Our Schedule is not Even Close to Anybody’ After Tough Win Over Santa Clara

Duke is 12-0, the top-ranked team in the country and has a bonafide player-of-the-year candidate in Mason Plumlee. So what does coach Mike Krzyzewski have to prove?

Well, after a hard-fought 90-77 win over Santa Clara on Sunday, Coach K wanted everyone to know just how tough their schedule has been this year.

“We continue to play tough teams,” said Krzyzewski. “It’s not even close. Our schedule is not even close to anybody’s. Everybody we play is good, so good.  In order to beat those teams then we have to play well.”

So far this season, Duke has scored wins over three top-five teams (Kentucky, Louisville, Ohio State) as well as wins against tough teams like Temple, VCU and Minnesota with Santa Clara also being in that mix. Every game has been a battle with most of them being close until a second-half push by the Blue Devils leads to what would appear to be a blowout.

“That was like a February ACC game,” Coach K said. “I mean, that was a heck of a game. They’re really good.  It’s not like we didn’t expect them, we knew they were very good and they were better.”

Duke will face another solid team in Davidson on Jan. 2 in their final non-conference game of the season.
